A: Virtual Hosting (shared hosting) is an option that allows a company or individual to lease part of a server to store their website's data, rather than pay for an entire machine with more space than they need.

Q: Can I access my domain address without the "www"?
A: Yes, you can access your domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. The "www" is a tertiary domain name that isn't necessary if your nameserver is set up properly.

Q: How long does it take to set up my account?
A: Your account will usually be set up within 8 hours. For security purposes, we manually verify all accounts before they are set up.

Q: Will my Macintosh work with my RotoHOST.com account?
A: Yes. Our server(s) use(s) standard protocols such as FTP and HTTP that are compatible with Macintosh operating systems.

A: We do not support the following things on any of our servers:
- SPAM - In short-----don't do it.

- Proxy Servers & Scripts (EX: nph-proxy)

A: Yes, you can use cron tasks. This can be administered via your cPanel control panel.

A: Yes,we support these. You can set your own mime types with your .htaccess file which you can access with your Control Panel.

A: Yes. You have access to your own raw log files.

A: We use version 5.6. Perl modules CGI.pm and LWP are installed.

Q: Does RotoHOST.com offer SSI?
A: Yes, SSI is on all of our servers. You just need to be sure that you call your files with the .shtml extension.

Q: Do RotoHOST.com servers support IMAP?
A: Our servers are not configured to be able to support IMAP. IMAP is possible, however, for only the main username of the account. We cannot provide any support other than turning on your access to IMAP. If you would like this, please let us know where you connect from and we will make an ftp connection to the server. We have to open a port for the location/s that you can connect to the server from.

Q: Can I access my domain securely?
A: Yes. Your web site can be accessed securely using SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

Q: Do you charge additional fees for hosting a secure web site?
A: No. It is a free standard feature. RotoHOST members are able to use a server-wide certificate at no additional cost. Having your own SSL certificate installed on your account is free-of-charge. A: We do not offer shell or SSH access due to sercurity issues. There are no exceptions.

A: Yes. There is no extra charge beyond the fee imposed by your secure certificate provider, such as www.thawte.com.

A: Yes, you can set up password protected areas.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and PayPal. You may also mail a check to the address listed in your invoice.

Q: When you say annually, do you mean pay you all the money up front, or pay monthly for one year?
A: You must pre-pay the full year at once if you order our annual plans.

A: There is no fee for transferring your domain to RotoHOST.com.

Q: Do you charge additional fees for using the MySQL database feature?
A: No. Ten (10) MySQL databases are included in each of our packages.

Q: What is CGI access?
A: CGI scripts (Common Gateway interface) are used to provide things like counters, form responses, guest books, and many other things. RotoHOST.com gives you full CGI access for no extra charge. You can write your own scripts, install someone else's, or use one of our preinstalled CGI scripts.

Q: Do you provide a CGI-BIN personal directory?
A: Yes, a CGI-BIN is provided. You can run your own cgi or perl scripts on your web site by putting them in your personal cgi-bin directory. Keep in mind that we do not allow any script or program that will allow any sort of remote connectivity to your domain.

Q: Which languages are supported in CGI (e.g. Bourne shell, Perl, Java)?
A: Bourne, Shell, and Perl are all supported and available. RotoHOST.com does not offer Java support at this time.

Q: What is a domain name?
A: A domain name is a registered name that identifies your company or person on the Internet It is a highly coveted identification which can make a huge difference on how well you are known on the Internet. We can register domain names for you for a cost of USD$12.95 a year. Refer to sales@rotohost.com for more information.

Q: How long does it take to register my domain?
A: This process can take up to five (5) days but usually takes less than one (1) day from the time the registration is submitted. While your domain is undergoing registration, you can still publish and view your web site by accessing the ip number assigned to you. This number is available in the Welcome Letter you received from us at the time the account was created.

Q: What is domain parking?
A: A parked domain is a pointed to an already existing web site. This is most commonly seen with companies registering "mycompany.com, mycompany.net, mycompany.org" and all of them going to the same web site. This does not include the registration of the domain to be parked which has a cost of USD$12.95 a year.

Q: Who is Network Solutions?
A: Network Solutions is an independent organization responsible for holding the registration and routing of Internet domain names.

Q: What programs can be used to access e-mail?
A: All POP clients can be used: Pine, Elm, Netscape mail, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, Eudora, etc. You can use any program which downloads the files from our server onto your computer. You can use mail user agents which run on our servers (such as pine), with a special configuration.

Q: What is an e-mail alias and is it unlimited?
A: An e-mail alias means if you send mail to webmaster@rotohost.net, for example, that address is aliased to whomever needs to receive it. It can be one person or multiple people, however you need it structured. It is unlimited--get as many as you need for no extra charge!

Q: May I promote my RotoHOST.com web site with bulk e-mail?
A: NO.
Bulk e-mail, often referred to as "SPAM" is not allowed or tolerated by RotoHOST.com. Spamming is in violation of our service agreement. There are legal and ethical issues involved in mass mailing of unsolicited e-mail. Any user of our services who has sent a large number of unsolicited e-mail will have their account closed within 24 hours. No refund will be issued. For clarification of this issue, please visit our Terms of Service and/or send an email to info@rotohost.com.

Q: How can I manage my e-mail users (add/remove/update)?
A: To add or delete POP boxes, use Add/Remove Accounts at http://yourdomain.com/cpanel/
You can redirect mail by editing the address, un-forwarding to the POP box (which deletes it if that's the only reference to it) and forwarding to whatever e-mail address you desire.

Q: Do I have access to my own FTP space?
A: Yes. We provide you with your own anonymous ftp area where you can share files with your customers or friends.

Q: Do you have FTP and FTP Anonymous access?
A: Yes, we provide both FTP and FTP Anonymous access with our hosting packages.

Q: Do you have a limit on the FTP transfer?
A: No. There is no limit. You can update your pages an unlimited amount of times, at any time you wish. Bandwidth, however, is counted towards your monthly limit.

Q: Are your servers connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? If not, when and why are they disconnected?
A: Our servers are connected at all times except, of course, for emergency or scheduled maintenance.

Q: What web server software are you running?
A: We are using currently using RedHat Linux/Apache Server.
Apache is the most widely used web server software on the Internet. It is highly scalable and reliable. We have found that the combination of Apache and Linux operating oystem on our servers provides a highly compatible package that is sure to keep your site running optimally all the time. Q: How many client sites are put on each web server?
A: This number may vary depending on the amount of space and bandwidth each member uses. However, RotoHOST will ensure that our systems are not "over-loaded". When a server has reached it's "max", we ensure that new domains are put on an additional server. This will allow all of our clients to have fast-loading, easily accesible web sites.

A: Our servers are running a UNIX-based operating system called Linux. It is freely available and highly reliable. We run a highly modified version of RedHat . For further information on Linux you can go to www.linux.com.
